The Meeting

Once again we had our meeting on Super Bowl Sunday and once again we had a great meeting with a great turn out of members.  We had one guest, Roy Sinclair.  He told me that he probably would come back next month as he had an enjoyable time talking ships with those of the membership that build ships.

Joe Schoen and Willie Ward joined our group today.  Welcome to the club.  Alex Rodriguez, one of our Juarez, Mexico members returned.  Welcome back, Alex.  His job caused him to miss a number of meetings .He now has a good size stack of issues of the GLUE to read.

Next month is a contest.  Bring your models so that we can build several categories of entries. We will offer as many types, scales, etc. as you require.

A number of you have paid your 2010 dues.  Thanks.  Just a reminder all dues are due as the old cards expired in December 2009.  We have 36 paid up members as of today, February 7.

Jens Ritter, our German member will be returning to Germany soon.  Today was his last meeting.  The Luftwaffe needs his services at home.  We wish him the best of luck on his return and he should be back in a couple of years while on leave/vacation.  Vaya Con Dios and auf Wiedersehen.

John Estes gave a printed Treasurer’s report on the expenditures for the entire year.

Thanks to all that filled out your Information Sheets for the GLUE. This makes it easier for me to keep up with what you brought to the meeting.

The Models

Charlie Flores brought a very nice I-16 in 1/72nd scale.  Charlie used the Hasegawa kit.  He stated that the kit was a wee bit tricky to build, but this was only is first or second kit in many years. The weathering job was very well done.  This was a technique not even in use by most modelers when Charlie built his last model.  Very nice work.

Mike King was back with some more P-47’s.  He brought a P-47M built from the Revell kit.  He also had two P-47 N’s to show, one built from the old Heller kit and the other from the newer Italeri kit.  Mike was asking about finding some more P-47 kits and picked up another Heller P-47N at the meeting.

Below is the Italeri P-47N.

Duane Velasquez was able to attend a meeting instead of working at the Local Hobby Shop. He brought three of his newest and  all are very nice models.  His Hemmit is on page 2.   The Special Hobbies CH-37 Mojave in 1/72nd scale came out really  nice.

Duane’s Mi-6 “HooK”

All three of Duane’s models are fairly new releases. I repeat, Nice.

Dennis Cramer brought his latest effort, an American Civil War Artillery Caisson in1/16th scale.  He built this using the Model Shipways kit.

Daniel Hunter one of our car guys brought a 1969 Dodge Charger R/T to show.  This was in 1/24th scale and I am not sure of the kit used, but I am thinking Revell. Daniel’s model will be on page 6..

Joseph Roper brought a model to show and announced that this was to prove that he actually finished a model every now and then.. This model was a !/35th scale Conversion of the M109A2/A3.  it was built for  his brother in law and is in a presentation case.

John Estes gave a short seminar on rigging Bi-Planes.  He showed how to measure wire lengths, how several different diameters/gauges of wire could be used, how to use stretched  sprue, not really recommended but useable and types of glue to use.  He made some applicators from sprue and mentioned other types.  He also mentioned that you could use monofilament in pre-drilled holes to rig, a method many modelers are now using. John Paul Jones said  that he had seen this method on several web-sites.  This method allows the modeler to pre-paint, decal, weather, etc, before assembly and then to rig the model after all has been done. Turn buckles in various scales were discussed and some ways that they could be made or represented in the larger scales.

Three of a kind?

Close Up.

My Column:

This has been a fun issue of the GLUE to get together.  I am learning more as I go, but as club, we

have a number of computer guru’s and graphic design guys that could a much better job in one-

half the time. I have spent about two weeks designing some Art Show Poster’s for my church and that has taught me some more about re-sizing and cropping photos of art and models. Keith Rutherford’s wife has been in the hospital with asthma and I really hesitated to give Keith more to do that he already has on his schedule so I just toughed it out and got with the old program.

I have been rather busy at home as we are getting tile on all the floors once carpeted and I have basically moved most of the household into a holding area. Then, it was decided by the ruling party, that maybe we should paint as it had been about 9 o 10 years since it was last done.  That took about three days and so it goes.  Now I have to move all that stuff back into the house when the tile is finally finished.

We will have a contest at the March meeting. I have picked up some new inserts for the medals and some new First Place Medals.  I hope that we give a lot of them away at the next meeting.  We will have the same set up for the contest.  Categories will be based on the number of entries.  Enough aircraft, armor, automotive, ships and figures will create a category. This is usually three of a kind.  Then if that can be divided into scales, we will divide again. Bring a Model and Bring a Friend to the next meeting on March 7.
